Team Maryland is pleased to announce that the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL took Team Maryland U18 Defenseman Eric Sade in the 5th Round of the 2010 USHL Futures Draft today. Sade, a 6’0” 170 pound defenseman had a standout year. His development and improvement was recognized by his coaching staff and throughout the USHL and College Hockey communities. Sade has all the tools to excel in the USHL, possessing an athletic stature, a solid skill set, and is one of the best competitors on the team despite being the youngest player.
Players that are eligible for the 2010 Futures Draft include only 94 birth years. Players selected in the futures draft can either be placed on that USHL teams active roster or placed on their affiliate list to develop for one more year in Midget hockey, and then move to the USHL team. Each USHL team is allowed 12 players to be placed on their affiliate list, and they are allowed 23 players on their active roster.
The USHL is the top Junior A league in the United States. To date they have produced 143 current NHL players and 233 Division I College Commitments.
